It was around 300 A.D. that the first ninja stars were created, although they didn't gain popularity until the 15th century.

Japan's warriors have been using them in battle for hundreds of years, and they were commonly found in their armors during battles. Through the years, different Japanese factions adapted their designs to make their own weapons and put their own spin on their designs. Some stars were unrecognizable! A metal plate used in armor today resembled their appearance more like arrowheads.

In today's market, they come in many different types. There are some designs based on Japanese history, such as the dragon stars. Also, there are throwing blades with highly specific designs made for martial artists. Using these blades in battle is impossible if you don't know how to use them properly.

The Ninja Stars Have Various Kinds

The Shuriken was a Japanese concealed weapon typically used as a throwing knife or for close combat.

As well as being called "throwing stars," they could be thrown like Chinese stars, but the main difference was their metal construction, as opposed to paper throwing stars, which sometimes contained metal pieces. Their use in war and assassinations has been documented in history. Also known as "katana-no-maki," throwing knives could be concealed like a katana within a koshirae, meaning "knife no mask".

You Can Choose Simple Or Complex Ones

Among the many types of shuriken, you can find flat ones shaped like small keys (omotegata), three-pronged ones (sansetsukon), and star-shaped ones such as crossbows. They are typically cylindrical in shape, with a length between 18 and 25 cm and a width that is two to four times as wide as it is thick.

Ninja stars were usually imprinted with the name of their maker or owner or other symbols or marks, to be used either as personal weapons for defense or for throwing. At times, the whole blade was hollowed out to make it lighter.

The hilt attached to the tip of the shaft could be either made of wood or metal. The blades are normally made from steel, though there are also examples of other metals used. The use of iron was widespread in Japan because it could easily be melted down after fabrication, making it easy to conceal.

You Should Handle Them With Care Since They Are Sharp

Among the Ninja's diverse arsenal were swords and blades they used as distractions and diversionary tactics. In spite of this, Shuriken can still inflict considerable damage even though they don't pose the same danger as swords and other weapons of feudal Japan.

Their primary purpose is to distract their opponents during combat. They should however be thrown accurately so that they can be hit. As a consequence, it is crucial for Ninjas to train hard and learn how to throw ninja stars correctly, as this skill can prove to be essential.
